The movie Lithium Springs is one to watch out for when cruising the shelves of the DVD/VCR rental shop. Created by Carter Lord, who worked in the New York film industry for years and who is far away from Hollywood, this movie has been called a range of things, from amusing, heartfelt, whimsical, camp and endearing. Previous reviewers have insisted that the movie will appeal to audiences ranging from 5 to 95 years of age. Awoof!

The story is about a Florida fisherman named Evinrude Jones and his dachshund, Fred. Jones thinks he’s figured out the location of Ponce de Leon’s legendary fountain of youth and the chest of gold that Ponce de Leon left there. Following a crude map to the treasure, he discovers that right near the stream is a golf course that the owner is about to sell to a theme park.
Then there’s a wood nymph who begs him to protect Lithium Springs. Evinrude wants to find the treasure so that he and his dog, Fred, can live out their lives on easy street. The story unfolds in an unexpected, enjoyable and charming way.
The best part of this movie is the storyline. In spite of the low production values, it is fun to watch. The cute camp is little Fred the dog with his snorkeling gear…

Lithium Springs is very low budget, very offbeat and very very quirky. It would be especially fun for young children and those with lots of houndishness in their hearts.
