Q: When is Gromit’s birthday?
Hint: Gromit is, of course, Wallace’s faithful canine companion.
I bet’cha know quite a bit of trivia about them, as Wallace & Gromit have sailed into the celebrity life of fame ‘n fortune.
A: His birthday is today, the 12th of February.
Happy Birthday Gromit!!!
Why might you be expected to know Gromit’s birthdate? Well - cause he’s a celebrity hound! And one thing ’bout celebrity status is that those in the media spotlight can’t be missed and are reported on in what two-leggeds call ‘news’.
The attention they’ve received since winning an Oscar and a Bafta for Best British Film has continued unabated and it is possible that Gromit is now Britain’s most famous hound — albeit a plastercine hound.

Winning awards is not the only honour: recently in the news it was announced that the Bristol City Council was planning to erect a statue of the two of them in their home city, Bristol (Metro, 22 June 2006). The creators, Aardman Animations, said of the proposed statue that “It may sound cheesy but we imagine that a statue of the man and his dog would be quite a good thing.”
So in honour today of Gromit’s Birthday, here’s a few more little bits of Gromit trivia - in case you ever need to know!
Wallace & Gromit’s address is 62 West Wallaby Street
Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit took 5 years to make. The making of the movie required:
2.8 tons of Plastercine in 42 colours
30 miniature sets
43 versions of Gromit
35 Wallaces
16 Victor Quartermaines and 15 Lady Tottingtons
20 differently shaped mouths
44 lbs of glue per month
It has a reported budget of 17 million pounds. No wonder it was expensive at five years with each day’s filming producing a mere 3 seconds of usable footage.
Earlier Wallace & Gromit movies include A Grand Day Out (which had been nominated for 1991 Oscar Movie and won 1990 Bafta for Best Short Animated Film), The Wrong Trousers (won an Oscar, a Bafta and 8 other awards for Best Short Animated Film in 1994), and A Close Shave, which won an Oscar, a Bafta and 13 other awards for Best Short Animated Film in 1996.
Wallace & Gromit’s The Curse of the Were-Rabbit also won the feature film category at the British Academy Children’s Film and Television Awards (November 2006).
