Media Hounds: Dachshunds in the New Yorker Magazine

On an idle afternoon – after a busy morning of dusting, tidying, vacuuming (grrrrwoof!) – I took some time to search dachshund sites on the internet. Many are silly! Oh, all right – most ‘doxie’ sites are daft to the extreme.

But there are always exceptions, and one exception in this instance is the particularly fine site hosted by Mr. Bob Brennert in Canada. On Bob’s site one finds all manner of interesting dachshund connections….

For example, did you know that dachshunds have featured in several covers of the New Yorker Magazine? Two very fine exemplars are featured as images on his site www.wienerdogs.org. This was the start of a long afternoon’s dig, as I searched the story behind the covers.

Cheltenham Targets Dog Poop

Little feet has a saying that I quite like: ‘There’s no such thing as a bad dog — just bad dog owners!’

Now Cheltenham town officials are taking up a tactic that hopes to shame dog owners into scooping their poop — as town byelaws require.

Under the new system, dog wardens who come across piles of dog poop spray paint red circles around it. If the mess is still there after a week, they add a yellow circle with a white circle going on after two weeks.
