It’s always a goodish idea to steer clear of wolves. But dogs in the North Pole area, Alaska, are warned this year to be especially vigilant. One local dog was recently picked up by a wolf, and two others have been killed recently.
Scooter, a 13-year-old dachshund mix dog was dropped by the wolf last Tuesday when his owner chased down the wolf in his pickup.
“I thought he was going to be dead,” said Travis Capps, holding 20-pound Scooter in his arms. (Let’s hope he was a mix with some larger breed, like a spaniel or beagle, and not mixed with a chihuahua — in which case poor old Scooter is definitely obese).
Happily the wolf dropped the dog when Capps pulled up behind it as it trotted down the road with Scooter in its mouth.
Scooter had a small puncture wound in his head and was acting a little dazed, but didn’t appear any the worse for wear.
“I think his pride is hurt more than anything else,” Capps said.
State officials suspect a pack of wolves has killed two dogs in the area in the last few weeks.
If you’re a dog, and you live in Alaska (USA), you’ve been warmed!
