SuperWoof to Welsh Farmers

28 Jan 08

Hear, hear to a group of organic dairy farmers from Wales. Calon Wen, a Welsh organic collective that sell their milk at Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose in London, are running a campaign to match homeless hounds in rescue centres with loving new owners. How good is that? Awoof!

The collective’s milk bottles will feature stickers of dogs needing homes with the message “R U the 1 for me?” All in the hope of aiding homeless hounds to find perfect two-legged companions. And wouldn’t you know it? In true farmer style, where the love of hounds and other livestock comes top of the list (and I mean nothing salacious in this!), the campaign was launched on St Dwynwen’s Day (25 January), which just happens to be the saint day for the Welsh patron saint of love.

The campaign will run through to St Valentine’s Day (14 February). So, if you’re looking for a good hound to complete your life, then may I kindly suggest that you check out the dogs featured on these milk bottles in your local Tesco, Waitrose, or Morrisons. Alternatively, take a look at their website www.calonwen-cymru.com.

Last year the RSPCA re-homed 16,716 dogs across the UK that had been abandoned or were victims of cruelty. And there are many other charities and trusts, such as the Dogs Trust, who also work day and night to rehome hounds to good houses. Just as well farmers, who know what it is to rely on a good dog, are getting in on the act.
