In Illinois last week, Linda Floyd had to have her miniature dachshund, Roscoe, put down after the dog gnawed off her big toe while she slept. Mrs. Floyd, 56, woke up too late to save her toe because nerve damage from diabetes had left her with no feeling in her toes.
The case is being used as an example of how dachshunds are vicious and dangerous dogs.
Balderdash! Did anyone pause to think how extremely hungry a poor little dog would have to be before going for its two-legged companion’s toes!?! Why not see this as a bizarre case of animal abuse? Did Mrs. Floyd forget to feed her dog?
Perhaps Roscoe was heroically trying to save Mrs Floyd from herself? Was the toe gangrenous? Was he ‘amputating’ strategically? For Mrs Floyd’s benefit?
Even though I’m only a small dachshund, I’d have to say there are too many unknown variables to be able to say for sure that in this instance Roscoe did wrong.
